LA VIDA Y LA MUERTE EN NAVIDAD

El ladrón no viene sino para hurtar, y matar, y destruir las ovejas; yo he venido para que tengan vida, y para que la tengan en abundancia. Juan 10:10

Cada año en este tiempo marco el aniversario de la muerte de mi madre, aunque ella muriera al final de mes de noviembre en 1989 era el principio de la temporada de Navidad, sí hasta en Panamá. En esta época del año permito que yo recuerde del tiempo con su emigración a los Estados Unidos en 1956 a su muerte. De todos los subes y bajas durante su vida.

Muchos de ustedes sentirán su pérdida esta Navidad más intencionadamente que antes. No lo bloquee. Permita que esto venga. Siéntalo. ¿Cuál es el amor por, si no intensificar nuestros afectos – tanto en vida como en muerte? Pero no esté amargo, es trágicamente autodestructivo para ser amargo.

Jesús vino que podríamos tener la vida eterna. “Vine que ellos pueden tener la vida, y tenerla en abundancia” (Juan 10:10). Algunos de ustedes pueden no estar seguros donde usted pasará sus años finales, los sí. Otra vez, Jesús vino que todos pueden saber que su casa final puede ser en el cielo con el Señor.

 ¿Se siente usted agitado para la casa? ¿Se siente usted agitado y no sabes por qué? Te sientes bien cuando una familia viaja a casa, aquel regreso para los días feriados. Creo que la razón fundamental de esta agitación es un deseo profundo para aquel último Regreso. “Él hizo todo hermoso en su tiempo: también él ha puesto la eternidad en su corazón, aún de modo que el hombre no pueda averiguar el trabajo que Dios ha hecho desde el principio hasta al final” (Eclesiastés. 3:11). Todos los otros son un anticipo. Los anticipos están bien.

Los anticipos son buenos a menos que se conviertan en sustitutos. No deje que todas las cosas dulces de la temporada se convierten en sustitutos de la gran Dulzura final. Dejemos que cada pérdida y cada placer envía nuestros corazones a un rumbo hacia el cielo.

¿Qué es la Navidad? Esto es: "Vine que tengan vida y la tengan en abundancia". Haga que su Ahora sea el más rico y más profundo esta Navidad bebiendo en la fuente de Siempre, el de la Vida Eterna.  Está así cerca.

LIFE AND DEATH AT CHRISTMAS
 ^“The thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly”. -John 10:10

   Each year at this time I mark the anniversary of my mother’s death, though she died at the end of the month of November in 1989 it was the beginning of the Christmas season, yes even in Panama. At this time of year I allow myself to think back from of the time with her migrating to the U.S. in 1956 to her death. Of all the ups and down during her life time.

   Many of you will feel your loss this Christmas more pointedly than before. Don’t block it out. Allow it to come. Feel it. What is love for, if not to intensify our affections – both in life and death?  But don’t be bitter, it is  tragically self-destructive to be bitter.

   Jesus came that we might have eternal life. “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). Some of you may not be sure where you will spend your final years, others do. Again, Jesus came that all may know that their final home can be with the Lord.

   Do you feel restless for home? Do you feel restless and not sure why? It feels good when a family travels home, to that homecoming for the holidays. I believe that that the bottom line reason for this restlessness is a deep desire for that ultimate Homecoming. ^“He hath made everything beautiful in its time: also He hath set eternity in their heart, yet so that man cannot find out the work that God hath done from the beginning even to the end” (Eccl. 3:11).  All others are a foretaste. Foretastes are good.

   They are good unless they become substitutes.  Don’t let all the sweet things of the season become substitutes of the final great all-satisfying Sweetness. Let every loss and every delight send your hearts a-homing after heaven.

   What then is Christmas? It is this: “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly”.  Make your Now the richer and deeper this Christmas by drinking at the fountain of Forever. It is so near.
