Introduction
Last Sunday we had a brief overview of the
Millennium; a period that covers 1000 years in which we will live in a perfect
world with Jesus Christ as ruler. In the meantime, though, we are waiting for
that “Blessed Hope”, - the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.” (Titus
2:12–13); We will be blessed beyond measure when
we see Christ. The trials of this life will be over, and we will see that “our
present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed
in us” (Romans
8:18). The word hope
does not communicate uncertainty, as in “I hope that something might occur”;
rather, it is the glad assurance that something will take place. Jesus
is our hope, and no one can take that hope away. “Hope does not put us to
shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy
Spirit, who has been given to us” (Romans 5:5).
The “blessed hope,” then, is the joyful
assurance that God will extend His benefits to us and that Jesus Christ will
return. We are waiting for this event now. Jesus said He would return (John 14:3), the angels said He would return (Acts 1:11), and the epistles say He will return.
Jesus could come back at any time for His church, which includes all believers
in Christ from the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 onward. This event is called the rapture.
It will be announced by the voice of the archangel and God’s trumpet call. The
bodies of those who have died will be raised to be joined with their souls, and
then the bodies of those believers still living on earth will be changed into a
body like the Lord’s resurrection body. The believers raised from the dead and
the believers living at Christ’s return will meet the Lord in the air and be
taken to heaven. They will “fly the friendly skies united” (cf. 1
Thessalonians 4:13–18).
This will happen in the twinkling of an eye (1 Corinthians 15:52).
But, what I just mentioned is not the
second advent; that is when Jesus returns for His church, for the believers, to
take His bride to heaven for the marriage feast. We’ll cover that a little
later on with the parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25.
After which Jesus will return with all the
saints, His church along with all Old Testament saints, and land on the Mount
of Olives; Zechariah
14:4 says “On that day
his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of
Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with
half of the Mount moving north and half moving south.” “That day” is a
reference to the Day
of the Lord, and the One
who stands on the mountain is the Lord Himself. So, yes, this passage predicts
the second coming of Jesus Christ…
It is at this point in Pinelspeak,
everything gets all discombobulated. Characterized by confusion or disorder.
I added this because that is what you
have. Confusion. Scripture, the Gospels and the letters were written in, not
the ‘classical’ Greek, but in Koinonia Greek, how it was spoken by the ‘common'
' everyday folk. The red-necks of those days, people with accents, and
dialects, like the Gallelians, and so on.
Then come the scholars and throw a wrench
into the Scripture. So we have three different versions of when the Second
Advent will occur.
Its like the secular world today using the
word Armaggedon to mean the ‘end of the age’. Or the word Apocalyptic. You do
know that Armageddon is not a verb, but a place; the mount of Meggido in
Jezreel. Apocalyptic would have to be “revealing” since that is what
Apocalyptus means.
I know I’m chasing the rabbit. But as Justice
Scalia said about reading Law, “. . . [the] lawyer
or judge trusts neither memory nor paraphrase, but examines the very words of
the instrument…” The Lord
has said the same about His word and, He said it first.
Ok! The first Advent was the incarnation
of Jesus Christ as announced by the Angel Gabriel to the young Mary as written
in Luke 1:32-33. He died and was buried, He rose from the dead and ascended
back to heaven but said He will return to earth, Matthew 24: 22ff; Zechariah
14: 1-4; and this is where the discombobulation begins. From known theologians
as noted by Dwight Pentecost to professors of Yale Divinity School. Dr.’s
Harold W. Attridge (Yale Divinity School) and David L. Bartlett when answering
questions they leave things nebulous, cloudy or in a haze; and/or ambiguous,
open to multiple interpretations and then at times they say you believe what
you think is right.
Paul, writing to the Corinthians
concerning their chaos, confusion in their services, about talking in tongues,
languages, made it clear that God's Word is clear: “God is not the author of confusion.” (1
Corinthians 14).
Anyway let’s look at the first of the
three ‘views’; that’s all we’ll be able to get through this morning. My prayer
at this point is that God will guide me, open my lips and speak His words and
not expound my own thoughts.
I.
Postmillennialism.
Postmillennialism is that interpretation of Revelation
chapter 20 which sees Christ’s second coming as occurring after the
“millennium,” one thousand years a golden age or era of Christian prosperity
and dominance. Christ
returns after a period of time, but not necessarily a literal 1,000 years.
Those holding this view do not interpret unfulfilled prophecies using a normal,
literal method, Revelation
20:4-6 should not be
taken literally. They believe that “1,000 years” simply means “a long period of
time.” Several commentators quote 2 Peter 3:8, “With the Lord a day is like
a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day”. Context is the key
to determining the correct understanding of this passage, especially the
comparison of a thousand years to one day. The context of 2 Peter 3 is the return of the Lord to deliver His
people. Peter tells the persecuted believers that scoffers will come and mock
the idea that the Lord will return. As Christians are persecuted and continue
to look for the Lord to deliver them, it does appear as though His coming is
“delayed.” Time is simply not an issue here; with God because He has an
unlimited amount of it. That’s the idea of the verse—both a day and a thousand
years are such an insignificant amount of time to God that it really makes no
difference to Him.
Postmillennialist believe that this
world will become better and better—all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding—with
the entire world eventually becoming “Christianized.” After this, then Chris
will return to an already perfect earth as described in Isaiah 11: 1-16.
But, as Grandpa McCoy would say,
‘dab-burnit’, that’s not the view Scripture presents of the world in the end
times. It’s easy to
see, Revelation, that the world will be a terrible place during that future
time. Also, in 2
Timothy 3:1-7, Paul
describes the last days as “terrible times.”
Postmillennialism uses a non-literal
method of interpreting unfulfilled prophecy, and often interpreting those
passages allegorically. The thing is that when one abandons the normal meaning
of a passage, its meaning can become entirely subjective. One puts in their
personal feelings, the interpretation becomes subject, that is Eisegesis,
reading into the text what the interpreter wishes to find or thinks he finds
there; expressing the reader's own subjective ideas, not the meaning which is
in the text.
The meaning of words is lost. When they
lose their meaning, communication ceases. That is not how God has intended for
language and communication to be. God communicates to us through His written
word, with objective meanings to words, so that ideas and thoughts can be
communicated.
Literal interpretation of Scripture
rejects postmillennialism and holds to a normal interpretation of all
Scripture, including unfulfilled prophecy. We have hundreds of examples in
Scripture of prophecies being fulfilled. Take, for example, the prophecies
concerning Christ in the Old Testament. Those prophecies were fulfilled
literally. Consider the virgin birth of Christ: Therefore the Lord himself will give you
a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his
name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14).
Consider His death for our sins Surely he has borne our griefs and
carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and
afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our
iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his
wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have
turned--every one--to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of
us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its
shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he
was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off
out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? 9
And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death,
although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:4-9);
These prophecies were fulfilled literally,
and that should be reason enough to assume that God will continue in the future
to literally fulfill His Word.
Postmillennialism fails in that it
interprets Bible prophecy subjectively and holds that the millennial kingdom
will be established by the church, not by Christ Himself.
We’ll have to wait for next Sunday and
cover Amillennialim……
The most important point of all is that
God, as Paul writes in Philippians 2, and R.C. Sproul explains, “the eternal
God, the second person of the Trinity, laid aside—emptied himself of—his divine
attributes so that he could become a man. “
So then by becoming man and His death on
the cross “we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus
Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:10) and we are told by Jesus Himself that
God “so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten-one of a kind son
that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
(John 3:16).
I think of the people that have died this
past week; some shot to death by random shootings, stray rounds. One never
knows when their life on earth will end, unless you are fortunate enough to be
terminally ill and ready to die. It is an often repeated statement yes, and it
is worth repeating over and over again.
God became a man came to earth to offer
Himself to pay the penalty for your sins, the sins of all mankind so that they
may have eternal life. That life that was lost in the garden. It is free; He
has paid the price due all you have to do is thank Him, believe that He died
for you and has forgiven you and you shall be saved.
There is no special prayer…. Just believe
that Jesus the Christ, died, was buried, and rose from the dead, the first
fruits and you shall be saved… and know that if your confession is true, your
salvation is secured and no one, I repeat, no one can talk it away …… As John
the Baptist said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the
world” (John 1:29)

Fervent Effective Prayer
We can all walk around with our chests out filled with pride like some preachers and people I’ve seen that tell everyone don’t worry God’s in control. The bravado they’re showing to others better be true, and if it is they are better, much better people than me.
When you’re sitting with your child whose temperature is rising do you really, nonchalantly, just bow your head, close your eyes & pray, “O Lord, we would really like, if it's in Your will, according to Your sovereign plan, to bless this child according to Your purposes,”? As a father, your son has heart failure and is placed on a list for a heart transplant. Do you just casually pray no problem, God’s in control, and keep diddy-bopping along just because you know you have the righteousness of Christ?9/16/2022

Introduction
For then comes the time when men will hand you over to persecution, and kill you. And all nations will hate you because you bear my name. (verse 9).
The question to which I haven’t found a coherent answer to; is verse 9 referencing persecution of the church throughout the age of the church, or during the tribulation period, or the last part the 3 ½ years of the seven year tribulation?
According to what is written in Matt. 24:9-23; Mark 13: 14-20; and Luke 21:10-28; it appears to me that Jesus is talking of the time just prior to His second advent. But as you look back through the history of the church from the first century to today, one could say that Jesus included the entire church age.
Last week I mentioned about the current persecution in Afghanistan against Christians and throughout the eastern hemisphere initiated on the most part by Muslims along with other people groups … It seems that here in the west for the time, we have been somewhat fortunate to not experience physical persecution but that isn’t entirely true.
The first of the early Christians to die for the church was Stephen, (Acts 6-7). Dragged to the synagogues then stoned to death. Luke documents in Acts 8:1 that a “great persecution arose against the church; also he comments that Saul (later named Paul), was in “hearty” agreement with putting Stephen to death.
There was James, John’s brother, who was the first of the twelve to be executed around 44 AD by Herod Agrippa I of Judea, Acts 12:2. It is said that when he was being led to his execution, one of his captors was so impressed by James' courage that he fell to his knees and asked for forgiveness and confessed that he too was a christian. Of course all the other apostles were killed with the exception of John who died about 98 A.D.
From the days that Jesus walked on the earth it is estimated that over 70 million Christians have been martyred for their belief in Jesus Christ. The number that have been persecuted but not having been killed will elevate that number.
Just prior to the turn of the 20th century, during the Boxer Rebellion in China from 1898 to 1901, 200,000 were executed, and in Comunist China between 1950 & 1980 approximately over 700,000 were persecuted and killed.
In Mexico between the mid 1800’s to 1930 ocwe 107,000 Roman Catholics were killed - under Idi Amin in Uganda, between 1971& 1979 over 300,000 were killed.
There are varying numbers on the annual number of Christians that are martyred. The Study of Global Christians says that about 100,000 christians are martyred while the Institute for Religious Freedom puts the amount between 7,000 & 8,000 – But even there that is a huge number.
Sadly though, the names of these heroes of Christ & their stories go largely unspoken & not reported by the press. Rou Stults of ‘Voice of the Martyrs’ says, Many Christians in the west either deny or are ignorant of it but persecution is part of a present reality. (At christianhistoryinstitue.org you can go to read more on this.)
But we do know that they will lay their crowns before the throne and say: ‘You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.’” Regardless of what we endured on earth, a priceless crown will seem a meager offering, but it will be the best gift we can give Him. Although the Scriptures do not state it specifically, it is likely that we will all follow the example of the twenty-four elders in casting our crowns at Jesus’ feet.

Now I said earlier, that in Matt. 24:9-23; Mark 13: 14-20; and Luke 21:10-28; it appears that Jesus is talking of the time just prior to His second advent, or to say the last of the seven year tribulation, but as we looked back, somewhat, through the history of the church from the first century to today, one could say that Jesus included the entire church age.
Then again, in Rev. 6:9-11 John writes that when the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been killed because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; 10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who live on the earth?” 11 And a white robe was given to each of them; and they were told that they were to rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers and sisters who were to be killed even as they had been, was completed also.
Later John writes in Rev. 7 that he saw a multitude that no one could number from from every nation and all the tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; 10 and they *cried out with a loud voice, saying “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” … 13 Then one of the elders explained to John These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, (the last 3 ½ years of the seven year tribulation, or time of Jacob’s trouble) and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
The great tribulation? But believers are not destined to wrath but to salvation as we read in 1 Thessalonians 5:9?
Well these are people who will come to salvation when they realize the millions that have been taken away, raptured, mysteriously and with the preaching of the 144,000 who will be sealed by God. As David Jeremiah puts it, If twelve disciples transformed the world in the first century, imagine the revival what will take place during the Tribulation!
Because the persecution and killings intensify Jesus says plainly in verses 24:10-13 : And at that time many will fall away, and they will betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will rise up and mislead many people. 12 And because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will become cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end is the one who will be saved.
I would venture to guess that as in the past, but more so in these days, when believers begin to be arrested, hated and killed for Christ’s sake, many “supposed” Christians will leave the faith, defect, forsake it, join the opposing side. Outwardly they identified with Christ but when the going gets to be too much, the persecution too severe, they will desert proving they never belonged to Christ; they will forsake Christ.
John writes in his 1st letter, They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be evident that they all are not of us. (2:19). So these will leave & join fellow unbelievers in assailing God’s people. That's been going on since the 1st century.
The cost is going to be high, too high. Anyone who has ever served in the U.S. military learned the U.S. military’s Code of Conduct. In boot camp we were required to memorize it. It comprises six articles that set behavioral obligations for U.S. military service members who are in combat or held in captivity as prisoners of war. The Code came to be because of the personal narratives of some American POWs from the Korean War who were fortunate enough to have survived their time as POWs.
Prisoners were tortured, starved and denied healthcare in order for the enemy to acquire public statements from the POWs in support of communism and against the U.S. government. The captors worked doggedly to ensure they broke morale, disrupted the strength of the chain of command and they waged psychological warfare on the minds of captives. Here it is called, good cop bad cop. The propaganda the enemy created eventually trickled back and began to impact public support of the war on the home front. Some POWs had turned on each other, betrayed each other and the country in order to survive. Sounds like Jesus saying of Christians, Matt. 24:10 they will betray one another and hate one another.
7,245 Americans were captured during the Korean War and roughly 39 percent died in captivity; When the Korean War ended, almost two dozen Americans chose to remain in China and they declined repatriation. According to the Defense Department, 192 former POWs were charged and tried for serious offenses that equated to treason, desertion and aiding the enemy. In 1954, the roots of the military Code of Conduct began to form when the Department of Defense ordered a study to examine the Korean War POW experience.
The U.S. military Code of Conduct was first established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on August 17, 1955 with the signing of Executive Order 10631. The order stipulates that “All members of the Armed Forces of the United States are expected to measure up to the standards embodied in this Code of Conduct while in combat or in captivity.”
There are six articles in the U.S. military Code of Conduct. Let me read the First & Sixth:
Article I: “I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.” –
The Article is clear that American warriors are expected to remember that they are American warriors and that they are charged with safeguarding the nation and the values that it represents. It also states clearly that the American service member is expected to give his or her life in defense of the nation.
And;
Article VI: “I will never forget that I am an American, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.”
What would Jesus' code of conduct be? If you research the various commentators you’d find volumes of theological gobbledygook; but Matthew 10:38 is pretty clear - the one who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
Let me ask you, are you worthy of Christ? Or will you hear, ‘I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
Before the Lord returns to take us to heaven, people will fall away from the faith. The statistics for mainline churches already show signs of fulfilling that prophecy because a lot of people who used to go to church, a lot of people who used to be religious, have pushed away, and churches are shrinking. There has been no persecution and killing of Christians here.
Within the Savannah Association many of the churches have not returned to the level they were at before 2020, (ie Covid). even then they weren’t what they were 7 to 10 years before.
People have become so used to having the services online and lounge in their PJ’s that they have chosen to stay home instead. Now, when actual persecution begins they’ll see the cost is too high and not worth the trouble of attending.
There are those churches with hundreds to one to two thousand attendees but what are they teaching? When the tribulation arrives and false believers begin to defect and look for those who will tickle their ears there will be just as many false teachers who will persuasively teach doctrines that seem true & godly, but are in fact, false & satanic.
To the Galatians Paul wrote even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel contrary to what we have preached to you, he is to be accursed! (1:8). To Timothy he said For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, (2 Tim. 4:3).
To the Corinthians concerning false teachers, he tells them, For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds. (2 Cor. 11:13-15)
Lawlessness is on the increase even now. Matt. 24:12 tells us that because of its increase, “the love of most people will grow cold.” You see that nowadays with the violence, people striking others with bats, driving through crowds, and striking people. All that makes people cold and callous towards others. How much worse will it be during the tribulation?
All this won’t be just in New York City or Chicago or San Francisco. This will be worldwide, globally. Men will engulf themselves in a tsunami of corruption and they will glory in it.
Jesus says he who endures to the end will be saved. Meaning that the endurance will be Spirit-empowered and proof of the reality that he is saved. Endurance is a mark of salvation, Jesus said “you will be hated by all on account of my Name, but the one who endures to the end will be saved” (Matt. 10:22)
Despite all the deception of the false christs, the false teachers, the warfares, pestilence, disasters, the fierce persecution of the saints, and the defections of believers, the gospel of Jesus Christ will continue to be preached throughout the whole world.
God is going to supernaturally present the gospel to every person on earth. An angel flying in midheaven with an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation, tribe, language, and people; 7 and he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give Him glory because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth, and sea and springs of waters.”
After the final & total evangelization of the world being proclaimed miraculously from heaven, man’s day will be finished; the rebellion will be over and there will be no more opportunity for salvation, for those who are alive at that moment, because then Jesus will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.
I know I sound like a broken record; that’s too bad. Today is the day of salvation, don’t be among the ones thrown into the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth in that place. (Matt. 22:13)
But there is More to Come … The Abomination of Desolation, spoken of by the prophet Daniel.

Today,
as in the beginning, man has grandiloquently elevated himself onto the throne
of pride. He has blinded his mind and
believes his knowledge is the accretion by his power and is vastly superior to
the wisdom of the Almighty God. There is
the story of three persons who went to a Sunday church service looking for
spiritual food, a young man in dire financial needs contemplating stealing from
his employer, a young woman being tempted to the life of drugs and sexual
promiscuity, and a prominent entrepreneur on the verge of bankruptcy. After the rendition of some classical hymns,
the pastor stepped to the pulpit and delivered a most eloquent sermon on “The
Need for Tolerance of the Diversity of Life Styles”. The three were nourished with stones instead
of bread. The young woman yielded to a
life of drugs and shame, the entrepreneur committed suicide, and the young man
went to prison after stealing from his employer.[i] The wisdom of the world is but foolishness to
God. Man sees himself as wise but the
capacity of his wisdom is that like the ant overlooking the vastness of the

Es un futuro muy sombrío para el mundo, para aquellos que rechazan a Dios, que rechazan a Aquel que vino a salvar a la humanidad. Pero hay una forma de evitar lo que se avecina. Invoca el nombre del Señor. Cree en tu corazón que Dios vino en carne para salvar a la humanidad. Ese es todo el Evangelio, la Buena Noticia. Llámalo. el Espíritu Santo os convencerá; sabrás que sabes. acontecerá que todo aquel que invocare el nombre de Jehová, será librado; Joel 2:32; "TODO EL QUE INVOQUE EL NOMBRE DEL SEÑOR SE SALVARÁ".
Hoy es el día de salvación. Jesús regresa por Su iglesia; para los que verdaderamente son salvos por gracia. Esta venida para Su iglesia nadie sabe cuándo será. A diferencia de Su segundo Advenimiento que pondrá fin al tiempo de la Tribulación de siete años que será 1260 días después de que el Anticristo se declare a sí mismo como Dios,
La venida de Jesús por su iglesia será, como explica Pablo en su primera carta a los Tesalonicenses... "Pero no queremos, hermanos, que ignoréis acerca de los que duermen, para que no os entristezcáis como los demás que no tienen esperanza. . 14 Porque si creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó, así también traerá Dios con Él a los que durmieron en Jesús. 15 Por esto os decimos por palabra del Señor, que nosotros, los que estemos vivos y permanezcamos hasta la venida del Señor, no precederemos a los que durmieron. 16 Porque el Señor mismo con voz de mando, con voz de arcángel, y con trompeta de Dios, descenderá del cielo, y los muertos en Cristo resucitarán primero. 17 Entonces nosotros, los que estemos vivos, los que hayamos quedado, seremos arrebatados (arrebatados - secuestrados) juntamente con ellos en las nubes para recibir al Señor en el aire, y así estaremos siempre con el Señor. 18 Por tanto, consolaos unos a otros con estas palabras. 4:13-8– … y en su primera carta a los corintios, digo esto, hermanos, digo esto, hermanos, que la carne y la sangre no pueden heredar el reino de Dios; ni lo perecedero hereda lo imperecedero. Hoy es el día de salvación. Jesús puede venir en unos años, puede venir el próximo mes, puede venir antes de que termines de leer. Dios no nos ha puesto para ira, sino para alcanzar salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, (1 Tesalonicenses. 5:9).
Oremos - Padre, hay millones en todo el mundo, de muchas lenguas, naciones que anhelan que vengas y los lleves contigo... Señor Dios, ven, ven pronto... Oramos, humildemente clamamos, suplicamos en el nombre de Tu Hijo nuestro nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesús que está a Tu diestra, que vive contigo y el Espíritu Santo, Un Dios desde la eternidad y hasta la eternidad..
