We read in Luke 24:27 where Jesus talking with the two disciples on the way to Emmaus Jesus, beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

An understanding & believing of the Book of Genesis is a prerequisite to an understanding of God & His meaning, what He means to man. Don't let anyone tell you differently, saying that the Old Testament is today irrelevant.
In Genesis, we are given vital information, hence the meaning of all things which would otherwise be inaccessible to mankind forever. The future is bound in the past, and what one believes concerning his/her origin is going to inevitably determine their belief in their purpose & their destiny. If you're going to believe your southern mama who told you that life is like a box of chocolates, "you never know what you're going to get," then that's how you'll live never knowing your purpose & future destiny.
On the other hand, an origin in the hands of a Holy, omnipotent God, predicts a divine purpose in history & an assurance of the consummation of that purpose.
