Only Two Nations

 

A Readers Digest version: In the year 930 BC Israel became divided with Jeroboam establishing the Northern Kingdom with ten of the tribes and Solomon's son Rehoboam was king of Judah, the southern kingdom. Fast forward to 732 BC, just 138 years later, the northern kingdom of Israel had turned, but for a small remnant, to idolatry worse than Judah. All the monarchs of the kingdom of Israel continued to follow Jeroboam’s lead. Not one of them was faithful to Israel’s God. Well, in the year 732 BC Tiglath-Pileser III, (Pul), first attacked the northern kingdom of Israel) and breached their defenses. Because of their pride instead of turning to God they stayed in their idolatry. They should have, but didn't, return to God. Well, God punished them using the Assyrians. By the year 711 BC the Assyrian king Sargon II conquers all of the northern kingdom of Israel and exiles the inhabitants of Samaria, never to return until 1948 AD. [Judah also when into a Diaspora after 70 -75 AD and they too would not return until 1948 AD]. Let’s stay with the northern kingdom. How many years from 732 BC to 711 BC? You do the math.

Now, there are only two nations in world history that have ever been dedicated to God. Israel when Solomon dedicated the first Temple in 1000 BC, 1 Kings 8:22-61, [I encourage you to read it], and the United States when George Washington , in his Inauguration Address on April 30th, 1789, gave a prophetic warning: “We ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and the right which heaven itself has ordained.” Then at St. Paul's chapel where he walked on foot with his cabinet, he prayed, “Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that you will keep the United States in Holy protection.”

After 9/11/2001 people ran and filled the churches insincerely, it appears, for a very short time. America as the northern kingdom of Israel, with defiance, has thumbed its nose at Him. Still God has, as He reminded Elijah, has a remnant that has not bowed their knee to Baal.
